A Visual Collection of Words and Colour
Colours can help us find balance and harmony within our lives. Finding the ‘right colours’ around us can precipitate positive changes. Similarly words can be powerful. They shape thoughts, feelings and actions. Essentially they are tools that can, and do define us.
The Creative Process
2024 was a year of embracing my own colour palette as an artist and layering them down on paper to create a “handprinted” effect.
Words have always played an important part of my emotional balance. Jumbling and unjumbling words either as poetry or within a collage have been healing. I was certainly influenced by Schwitters, Hock, Rauschenberg and Kruger during my student years, as well as Robert and Sonia Delauney.
Soon a symbiotic relationship started to emerge between my colour sheets and the hundreds of words which lay exposed on tables, all cut from magazines and pamphlets. Words that spoke to me directly, words that represented something or someone within my life or which just made me smile.
By Spring 2024, the studio was reminiscent of a confetti factory and my greeting card ranges started to materialise. I explored colour on old canvases, words and colour on boards, glass and card. I just let myself express through these mediums to cleanse, clear and heal, whatever emotions emerged and challenged me.
The card range currently includes:
Family and Relationships, Dogs, Christmas, Wellbeing, Pastimes and Nature.
I have currently created over 400 cards.
